A Leopard and a Witch do Halloween

Halloween this year featured a darling witch, a cute little leopard, a scary skeleton, and a really bad tummy virus with lots of puking on the side.  This is the second year in a row that I've had a sick kid on Halloween.  Piper had it the night before, and Josie had it the night of Halloween.

We still managed to get out and about, but we skipped the evening trick-or-treating.  We also missed their preschool parade - after staying up half the night with Piper, none of us wanted to be out of the house bright and early for it.

We made an appearance at Diamond Wireless for daddy's work party - he was ready for the girls laying down in a coffin in their scary spook alley.
Next we met up with Brynn and Emery to visit Bubba at the inContact party - our third year in a row.  Emery also had some fun with puking the night before.  He sure was a cute little racecar though.

Grandpa came to visit and see the kiddos too!
We ended the day by having Liza, Randy and Maxwell over for some chili and breadsticks.

Pickin punkins

We had fun picking out and painting punkins with our friends the Cannings.  We headed over to a little local farm on a beautiful fall Saturday.

Pretty much impossible getting all five of them to look at the camera.

 These three love each other!

Tiffany and Justin had us over to their brand new house to paint punkins on their back porch. Brave!

Halloween Wrap-Up

I can't believe November is almost over and I'm just getting around to writing a little about October.  The month of October flew by this year with our trip to California, but we still had time to fit in some fun stuff for Halloween.

Halloween is not like it was when I was a kid.  I remember wearing my costume one time - on halloween night when you would go trick-or-treating.  That's it.  Now it is a month-long affair.

First up - we went to breakfast with a witch at Gardner Village with Lauren and Olivia Larsen.  Brooke was with a sick baby, so it was me and all the girls.  Josie wore her fairy costume and Piper wore her Care Bear costume.  Not the best picture of my carebear here.

Then on a super warm Saturday, we headed to Cornbelly's at Thanksgiving Point again, which is a lot of fun.  This year, they went with all their Jones cousins.

Then we painted punkins on a Sunday night.  I thought it would be easier than carving, but maybe not.  Paint all over the dining room...
The Monday before Halloween, they wore their costumes again at their dance class.  A bunch of little princesses showed up, plus one little scarecrow.  Too cute.
Then on Halloween morning, they wore their costumes to preschool and there was a parade around the school with all the different classes.  These little girls, Ava and Ireland, are their preschool BFFs.
All the kids in their classroom.
On Halloween, we went to Bubba's work party again, which is incredible.  They put on quite the party.  They did some trick-or-treating there, then we headed to Josh's work for more trick-or-treating.  I didn't get any pictures because by this time, Josie was getting pretty sick.  By the time we got home, she was in full-blown fever mode and the sickness/fever/cough stuck around for the next ten days.  Welcome to winter!

A Princess and a Frog Celebrate Halloween

October was one fun thing after another celebrating Halloween.  There are so many things to do here with kids - we had to pick and choose because its just not possible to get it all in.  Early in the month, we went down to Thanksgiving Point for the festival/maze/Halloween celebration down there.  There were bounce houses, climbing ropes, little mazes, pumpkin patches, an entire area for princesses, etc, etc.

 Climbing up the rope ladders
They had these giant "pillows" for the kids to bounce on.
Riding some kind of swing horse and sitting on the princess horse.
Later in the month, we also went to This is the Place Park for some trick-or-treating.  The girls got to ride the train there and get candy from the "candy cannon".  Bubba and Grandpa came with us, but I forgot to get pictures. :(  We also went to storytime at the library, which had a halloween theme and the girls got to go trick-or-treating there too.

A few days before Halloween, we decorated pumpkins with tissue paper shapes.  Easier for little ones and less messy than carving them.

The girls decided to be a princess (Josie) and a frog (Piper).  They came up with these costumes completely on their own without any prompting on our part.  I think it is pretty representative of their personalities and how different they can be.

We had a great (and very full day) on Halloween.  The girls had a party at preschool, then we hit up my mom's work party and my work party, then spent the evening with friends and did more trick-or-treating.

Bubba's work goes all out with their party.  She was a spider and her entire department was covered in spiderwebs.  There were two floors of their building set up for trick-or-treating.
Josie and Piper had to keep reminding themselves that "bubba's not a real spider".
Here they are dressed up next to the pumpkins we made and ready to head out.
Halloween is definitely a lot more fun with little ones.  Can't wait for next year!
